Geek Notes is a virtual sticky pad allowing for you to keep your notes on your desktop and be organized at the same time. You can customize the color, font size and even translucency of your notes. Geek Notes supports rich text format allowing you to created notes with formatted text and even pictures. Notes can be resized, color coded, prioritized, and transparent.

Main Menu

  1. Refresh:
    The Refresh Option refreshes the Geek Notes display. This option applies any new preferences or Note changes you might have made.
  2. Hide All:
    The Hide All option removes and saves all Notes from your desktop.
  3. Show All:
    The Show All option displays opens all saved Notes displaying them on your desktop.
  4. View Saved Note:
    The View Saved Notes menu displays all of your saved Notes. The Note color will vary depending on their priority level. See the View Saved Notes section Below For More Detail.
  5. Make New Note:
    The Make New Note option opens a new blank Note. See the Note Features section below for more details.
  6. About:
    The About section provides easy access to program information, check for updates, and help options. See the below About Section Features for more detail.
  7. Preferences:
    Preferences allow you to customize Geek Notes to your requirements. This allows you to change Note background colors, font information, Opacity and much more. See the Preferences section below for more detail.
  8. Exit:
    Exit closes the Geek Notes application. To open Geek Notes again you simply have to press Start -> All Programs -> Concept Geek --> Geek Notes

Quick Summary Display

The Quick Notes Summary Display provides you with a count of all saved notes and their priorities. To view this quick summary simply click once on the Geek Note's Icon .

If you double click on the Geek Note's Icon to create a new note. See the Notes Features section below for additional details.

View Saved Notes

The view saved notes menu allow you to quickly access all saved notes. Simply click on View Saved Notes,then select the note you wish to view.

Notes are sorted in the order they have been created. If no title is provided, it will default to Note From : {Note Created Date} {Note Created Time}.

If you hover your mouse over each note, the date the note was created and last updated will be displayed.

New Note

  1. Note Title:
    Geek Notes allows you to enter a note title. This will be displayed in the "View Saved Notes" section, allowing you to quickly access your saved notes. If this field is left blank, the title will default to the date and time the note was created in a format similar to this example, Note From: 1/9/2008 4:51:02 PM.
  2. Note Text:
    This section allows you to enter the text of your note. You can enter website links, paste graphics, and enter lists. You can format this text using by right mouse clicking. See the Note Formatting section for additional information.
  3. More Options:
    By pressing the ... showing next to point three in the diagram you will receive a dropdown with all of the note options. From that menu, you can dock this note on top of all other windows, save, delete, email, or access help. Please see the Note Options section for more information.
  4. Close Note:
    Simply press the X to close the note without saving.

Note Toolbar

  1. Pin / Unpin Note:
    Geek Notes provides you the ability Pin a note to your desktop. By doing this the note window will always be on top of all other application windows.  To enable this feature simply click on the Pin icon. To disable this feature, press the Pin icon a second time.
  2. Save Note:
    To save the note and close the screen simply press the green check. This will save your note and close the screen. If you want to save your note but not close the screen you can press Ctrl + S. This will save your note without closing.
  3. Delete Note:
    By pressing the red X you will be prompted if you wish to delete your note. If you answer yes, your note will be removed from Geek Notes.
  4. Email Note:
    By pressing the button the contents of your note will be transferred to your default email program. The note title becomes your email title, and the note content becomes the email body.
  5. Help:
    The help button tables you to the Geek Notes Feature Walk Thru.

Note Options

  1. Note Priority:
    Geek Notes allows you to set a priority for each note. By default all notes have a priority of Med. By changing the priority of a note the icon will change under the View Saved Notes.
  2. Format Note:
    Geek Notes provides the ability to format the content of your note.
    You can quickly:
  • Make text bold
  • Underline text
  • Make text Italic
  • Strikeout text
  • Change the color of text
  • Change the font style of your text
  • Right, Left, or Center Align your text
  • Create a bullet list
  1. Background Color:
    This option allows you to set the background color of the note. By default all Geek Notes are yellow, this option allows you to color code your notes.
  2. Last Modified Date:
    The last saved date and time is displayed. This value is updated each time a note is saved.
  3. Set Note Opacity:
    Geek Notes provides the ability to set the level of see thru or opacity for each note. As you move the slider from left to right the note becomes less see thru. When moving the slider from right to left the note will start to fade and become see thru.

General Preferences

  1. Help:
    The help button takes you to the "Geek Notes Feature Walk Thru". This help file is designed to provide information on all the features and options within Geek Notes.
  2. Show Splash Screen On Start:
    When checked the Geek Notes splash screen will display on program startup.
  3. Launch On Windows Startup:
    When checked Geek Notes will start each time you start Windows. After Windows has finished loading you will noticed the Geek Notes Icon in your system tray next to the clock.
  4. Auto Save Notes:
    Geek Notes will automatically save you notes based on the number of minutes placed in this box. The default is every minute. You can adjust this to meet your needs.
  5. Notes Storage Directory:
    This option allows you to customize where your Geek Notes are stored.
  6. Find Directory Button:
    This button allows you to browse for a folder to store your Geek Notes in.
  7. Reset Preferences:
    The Reset Preferences option allows you to reset your Geek Notes preferences back to the "Factory default" settings. If you are not comfortable with your preferences changes, this is a simple way to reset them to the standard configuration.
  8. Save:
    The Save button will save and apply all of your preference changes. Please note any default options you have adjusted will only apply to New Geek Notes.
  9. Cancel:
    The Cancel button closes the preference screen without applying any of your configuration changes.

Preferences: Set Note Defaults

  1. Help:
    The help button takes you to the "Geek Notes Feature Walk Thru". This help file is designed to provide information on all the features and options within Geek Notes.
  2. Default Background Color:
    Set the color of the note. This option allows you to customize the note color for all new notes created by Geek Notes.
  3. Lock On Top Of All Other Menus:
    This option allows you to set if by default you want your note to be on top of all other windows. If you have this option checked, each time you create a new note, no other windows such as Internet Explorer, Outlook, etc will cover up your note.
  4. Show Option Button & Text:
    This option allows you to display both the action icon and the associated text within your note. For example, the check icon means save, this would show both the check icon and the word save.
  5. Default Font:
    The default Font information button allows you to set the default font, and font size for all new notes. Simply press the "Click To Set Default Font" button to make your selections.
  6. Default Note Size:
    The default note size menu opens a screen that looks similar to a note. After resizing that screen to the desired size, all new notes will be created at that size. Please see the Default Note Sizing menu for more detail.
  7. Default Note Opacity:
    Set the transparency (see through) level of all new notes.
  8. Reset Preferences:
    The Reset Preferences option allows you to reset your Geek Notes preferences back to the "Factory default" settings. If you are not comfortable with your preferences changes, this is a simple way to reset them to the standard configuration.
  9. Save:
    The Save button will save and apply all of your preference changes. Please note any default options you have adjusted will only apply to New Geek Notes.
  10. Cancel:
    The Cancel button closes the preference screen without applying any of your configuration changes.

Preferences Setting Note Default Size

  1. Save Note Size:
    After changing the note to your desired size simply press the "Save Note Size" to set the default note size.
  2. Close Note:
    Simply press the X to close the sizing form without saving.
  3. Sizing:
    By clicking on the side of the note you can drag and resize the note to the size you desire. After the note is the size you want all of your new notes to be, simply press "Save Note Size" set this as the new default size.

Preferences: Enable Shortcut Keys

  1. Help:
    The help button takes you to the "Geek Notes Feature Walk Thru". This help file is designed to provide information on all the features and options within Geek Notes.
  2. Enable Windows Shortcut Keys:
    When checked this option allows you to press a series of keys from within any application to generate a new note. For example if you are browsing the web and press Alter + Ctrl + Shift + N a new note will appear.
  3. Reset Preferences:
    The Reset Preferences option allows you to reset your Geek Notes preferences back to the "Factory default" settings. If you are not comfortable with your preferences changes, this is a simple way to reset them to the standard configuration.
  4. Save:
    The Save button will save and apply all of your preference changes. Please note any default options you have adjusted will only apply to New Geek Notes.
  5. Cancel:
    The Cancel button closes the preference screen without applying any of your configuration changes.

Note Shortcut Keys

The below shortcut keys can be used when you are working with a Geek Note.

1. Help Press F1 on your keyboard
2. Bold Press Ctrl + B
3. Underline Press Ctrl + U
4. Italic Press Ctrl + I
5. Save Note Press Ctrl + S
6. Toggle Note On Top Of All Other Windows Press Ctrl + T
7. Cut Press Ctrl + X
8. Paste Press Ctrl + V
9. Copy Press Ctrl + C
10. Undo Last Action Press Ctrl + Z
11. Redo Last Action Press Ctrl + Y

Global Shortcut Keys

When the Enable Windows Shortcut Key option is enabled within Geek Notes Preferences you can use the below shortcuts within any Windows application manage your Notes. For example if you're browsing the internet and want to write a quick note about a site you're viewing simply press Alt + Ctrl + Shift + N and a new Note will appear on your screen.

1. Hide All Saved Notes Press Alt + Ctrl + Shift + H
2. Show All Saved Notes Press Alt + Ctrl + Shift + S
3.Crate A New Note Press Alt + Ctrl + Shift + N
4.Close Geek Notes Press Alt + Ctrl + Shift + E

About Menu

  1. About Geek Notes:
    The About screen displays the latest version information and provides links for suggested charities to make donations.
  2. Visit ConceptGeek.Com:
    This links takes you directly to the Concept Geek website. Here you can read about features, new releases, and usage tips.
  3. Help:
    The Help link takes takes you to a feature and usage list.
  4. Check For Updates:
    This feature allows you to check for a new release of Geek Notes. Please note this feature requires you are connected to the internet.
